I don’t know quite what it is about the profession of doctors and policeman, but television and it’s viewers never seem to get tired of watching dramas involving both of these characters. It must be something about the gravity of the jobs and the way they deal with so many problems, conflicts and life and death on a daily basis. I suppose, that is what makes for really good story telling. I couldn’t imagine a television show about accounts dealing with the constant drama and crises of getting tax forms filed before the deadline making for very engaging television.
Even though I don’t watch a ton of television these days, I must admit, that some of my favorite shows of the past have fallen into this genre. NYPD blues, Saint Elsewhere, Hill Street Blues and Chicago Hope are just a few that come to mind. I also like to watch Scrubs online whenever I get the chance. Watching television via the internet is really my preferred choice these days. As much as my cable provider is making strides towards improving my television experience with their digital cable box, it still pales in comparison the flexibility, speed, and ease of use of the internet for streaming media.
One of the things I really like about the internet experience, is the large selection and choice of episodes that are available. While my cable provider may have a couple of prior episodes, it’s nicer to be able to go back a few seasons and catch missed episodes. The next few years should be an interesting one in the battle for viewers attention between the traditional cable providers and the new upstart online media streaming sites.
