Network Televisions And Computers Are Converging

I’ve been a gadget-a-holic all my life, and the more I read about the latest advances in technology, the more enthralled into it I become.  I do beleive we are really getting to the point where the technology around us is beginning to become much more transparent and accessible.  By that, I mean more people are able to use the latest gadgets, because there has been more of a push towards real practical applications that leverage the new tech.  Take for instance the latest trends in televisions.  While flatscreen LCD, LED, and even plasma manufacturers are enjoying a hay day in sales, they’re still searching for ways to differentiate themselves from the competition.

Enter the latest batch of televisions that are network capable.  Meaning, they can connect to the internet.  Read this Sony HX800 review for more details.  Years ago, television became more digitally intelligent with the firmware imbedded within them.  Now that they connect with your network, they’re coming with their own set of  apps that basically make these televisions even more of a computer.  So, when does a television start becoming a computer, and a computer start becoming just a television.  It doesn’t really matter actually.  What’s important here, is that the cool technology that drives these devices is becoming irrelevant to the consumer.  While there will always be the crowd of techno mavens, that want to know how this stuff works under the hood (me included), this technology will thrive because the masses are putting it to good use.

We are living in the future.  At least the future I used to read about as a kid in all the sci-fi stories I consumed.  While there will always be better, faster, neater and cooler toys around the corner, at the moment I love the toys we have to play with today.
